Health Welfare Committee
Venue
KYAU, Enayetpur, Sirajganj
The Health-Welfare Committee organised a thalassemia consultation programme from 17 to 24 September 2026, offering students one-to-one counseling in which they could discuss their concerns privately with a specialist.
Counseling was provided by Dr. Mohammed Mejbahuddin Mia, Assistant Professor, Department of Transfusion Medicine, of Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College & Hospital. The programme was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Fazle Rabbi Shakil Ahmed of the Department of Pharmacy and Dean of the Faculty of Biomedical Science, with overall supervision by the members of the Health-Welfare Committee.
About Thalassemia
Thalassemia is an inherited, non-contagious blood disorder in which the body produces less hemoglobin than normal. Its severity ranges from healthy carriers to patients who require lifelong blood transfusions and iron chelation therapy. When both parents are carriers, each pregnancy carries a 25% chance of an affected child. Carrier screening and genetic counseling before marriage are the most effective ways to prevent severe thalassemia.
Gratitude
The Committee sincerely thanks Prof. Dr. Rubaiyat Farzana Hussain, Member Secretary of the Board of Trustees of KYAU and Director of Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College & Hospital (KYAMCH), whose planning and encouragement have contributed to the success of all the activities of the Health-Welfare Committee.
