Sirajganj: A professional guidance workshop titled “Study Abroad & Career Prospects: From Aspiration to Action: A Practical Roadmap for Undergraduate Students” was successfully held at Khwaja Yunus Ali University (KYAU) for undergraduate students of the Department of English. Organized in collaboration with the Career Counselling & Placement Center (CCPC), KYAU, the session centered around the core theme: “Don’t just choose a country. Choose a pathway.”

The 60-minute session was conducted by Md. Sozib Hosen, Assistant Professor, Department of English, KYAU, and PhD Fellow at Khulna University.

Key Highlights & Academic Roadmap

The workshop aimed to reverse the conventional, unstructured approach to higher education by urging students to begin their journey with clearly defined career targets and academic disciplines rather than merely picking a popular destination.

Core takeaways from the session included:

  • The 5-Fit Selection Matrix: Evaluating prospective institutions based on academic fit, programme structure, financial viability, admission criteria, and available funding options—shifting the focus away from institutional prestige alone.
  • Direct Reliance on Official Channels: Encouraging candidates to circumvent unverified agent claims and social media rumours by using authoritative portals such as DAAD, Study UK (British Council), EducationUSA, and official university department pages.
  • Credential Verification & Attestation: Navigating necessary pre-application procedures, including WES/ECE evaluations for North America, UK ENIC statements, uni-assist processing for Germany, and standard Hague apostille/embassy legalisation requirements.
  • Application Dossier Preparation: Structuring essential documents—Statement of Purpose (SOP), region-specific CV formats (Europass, North American resume, or academic CV), reference letters (LORs), and standardised language assessments (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE).
  • Funding Architecture: Demystifying competitive international scholarships—such as Chevening, Commonwealth, Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters, and DAAD—alongside Graduate Assistantships (RA/TA) and tuition waivers.
  • Post-Study Work Realities: Clarifying regulatory frameworks across key destinations (including US OPT, the UK Graduate Route, Canada’s PGWP, and Australian Temporary Graduate visas), with an emphasis that post-study work schemes grant legal employment authorisation rather than guaranteed jobs.

Student Engagement & Action Planning

The interactive session engaged students through visual roadmaps, myth-busting discussions, and real-time portal exploration. To conclude the workshop, participants completed an assessment and drafted an actionable, dated six-month plan designed to streamline their forthcoming academic applications and funding pursuits.

The organizers noted that equipping arts and humanities undergraduates with practical, verified strategies remains crucial to helping them transition successfully into global academic and professional opportunities.
