A part of the students from Batch 15 in the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Khwaja Yunus Ali University, successfully completed a two-week industrial internship at Essential Drugs Company Limited (EDCL), Bogura Plant, from 12 to 23 July 2026.
The internship was conducted as part of the students’ academic curriculum and provided practical exposure to modern pharmaceutical manufacturing, quality-control systems, and regulatory practices. During the training, students observed the complete manufacturing processes of tablets, capsules, and cephalosporin dosage forms, including raw-material dispensing, processing, granulation, compression, coating, packaging, labelling, and final product inspection.
Students also learned about Batch Manufacturing Records, Good Manufacturing Practices, Standard Operating Procedures, workplace safety, documentation, and in-process quality-control tests, including weight variation, hardness, thickness, friability, and disintegration.
A major component of the internship was the visit to the dedicated cephalosporin manufacturing facility, where students learned about contamination-control measures, environmental monitoring, and procedures for preventing cross-contamination.
They also visited the Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Microbiology, Product Development, Engineering, Warehouse, Sales, Accounts, and Administration departments. These visits helped them understand the coordinated roles of different departments in maintaining product quality, regulatory compliance, and uninterrupted pharmaceutical production.
The internship strengthened the students’ practical knowledge, professional confidence, and understanding of career opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry.
